Exam Overview

NEET PG is the single eligibility-cum-ranking examination for admission to MD, MS, and PG Diploma courses across medical colleges in India (except for AIIMS, JIPMER, PGI Chandigarh, and NIMHANS which are included under INI-CET). It is mandatory for all government and private college admissions for postgraduate medical courses.

Marking Scheme

  • Correct answer: +4 marks

  • Incorrect answer: -1 mark

  • Unanswered questions: 0 marks

  • Total marks: 800

Eligibility Criteria

  • Qualification: MBBS degree or provisional MBBS pass certificate recognized by the NMC

  • Internship: Completion of one-year internship on or before the specified date (usually 31st March of exam year)

  • Registration: Valid registration certificate issued by NMC/State Medical Council

  • Nationality: Indian citizens, NRIs, and Foreign Nationals (subject to regulations)

Syllabus

Based on MBBS curriculum including:

  • Pre-clinical subjects: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry

  • Para-clinical subjects: Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine

  • Clinical subjects: Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, etc.

Exam Pattern

  • Total questions: 200 (reduced from 300 since 2021)

  • Duration: 210 minutes

  • Type: MCQs with single correct response

  • Negative marking: Yes (-1 for incorrect answers)

Latest Updates

  • NEET PG 2025 may be replaced by NExT PG depending on government decision

  • If NEET PG is retained, it will be held tentatively in first half of 2025

  • Internship deadline is expected to be 31st March 2025

  • Counseling will be conducted by MCC and respective state authorities
